John's work is carried by many galleries, including The South Street Gallery in Hingham, MA; Artpix Studio in St. James, NY; and the Spring Bull Gallery in Newport, RI.

Loughlin was an active artist member of the American Watercolor Society in New York City; the Providence Art Club in RI; past president of the Providence Watercolor Club, now the Rhode Island Watercolor Society; the Guild of Boston Artists; the Rockport Art Association (RAA); the North Shore Art Association; the Allied Artists in New York City; the Academic Artists; the New England Watercolor Society; and the Hudson Valley Art Association.

He exhibited at the Boston Arts Festival in 1955; the Academic Artists Show in Springfield, MA in 1959; the Bristol Art Museum in RI in 1970; the American Watercolor Society annual exhibition, held at the National Academy of Design Gallery in NYC in 1971; the Providence Art Club Open Watercolor Show in 1972; and The Galleries, Wellesley Hills, MA in the 1970s.
